At a moment of institutional renewal and repositioning, its activities are currently structured around two complementary strands: MD Accompanies and MD Programs.
MD Accompanies reflects Materiais Diversos’ commitment to artists whose practices and discourses are distinctive, situated, and engaged with the social, political and ecological realities of the present. Through artistic accompaniment, production and co-production, residencies, and support for touring and dissemination, the programme creates the conditions for research, experimentation and risk-taking to unfold sustainably, through processes tailored to each artistic trajectory and shaped through dialogue.
The programs also encompasses an extended community of artists and organisations, built through regional support schemes for artistic creation, open calls, capacity-building initiatives for emerging artists and producers, and national and international collaborative networks. These initiatives make it possible to identify emerging practices, accompany artistic journeys, and strengthen long-term relationships with artists, partners and organisations.
More than a support programme, MD Accompanies positions Materiais Diversos as an internationally oriented organisation dedicated to the development, production and presentation of innovative and ambitious forms within contemporary performing arts. Materiais Diversos produces artists’ work and accompanies these processes from the earliest stages of conception through presentation and circulation, fostering artistic adventure and creative risk-taking while contributing to the advancement of the performing arts field.

MD Programs gives shape to the curatorial practices of Materiais Diversos through public presentations, publications, gatherings, mediation projects, training initiatives and research activities. Through this strand, we create contexts for encounters between artists, audiences and territories, fostering experiences that question, expand and reimagine contemporary performing arts practices.
Since 2014, Materiais Diversos has accompanied the artistic trajectories of Catarina Miranda, Clara Amaral, Filipa Francisco, João dos Santos Martins, Jonas & Lander, Marcelo Evelin, Marta Cerqueira, Sofia & Vítor, Teresa Silva & Filipe Pereira, and Tiago Guedes.
