At a moment of institutional renewal and repositioning, our activity is currently organised around two complementary strands: MD Programs and MD Accompanies.

MD Programs is the continuous strand of Materiais Diversos: a space where programming, audiences and territory intersect. Through it, we give form to our curatorial practices, public presentations, gatherings, publications, mediation projects, training initiatives and research activities, creating contexts in which contemporary performing arts practices can be questioned, expanded and reimagined.

This strand is grounded in the belief that what brings us together is not consensus, but critical proximity, understood as productive friction: the space where different perspectives, experiences and ways of being meet, challenge one another and are transformed in the process. In a time marked by uncertainty, social fragmentation and the erosion of collective imagination, togetherness cannot rely on shared certainties, but rather on the political courage to remain close, to listen to dissent and to build relationships through difference.

We think of programming not as a linear trajectory, but as a constellation. We create space for the invisible, the unfinished, that which is still in process and that which has yet to be named. Here, layers, tensions, affects and contradictions coexist.

This vision reaches its most visible expression each October through two complementary moments: the Materiais Diversos Festival, held biennially, and Materiais Adversos Weekend, a new format dedicated to artistic research, the sharing of processes, and the creation of temporary communities of practice and reflection.

MD Programs thus operates as a hyphen between the local and the international, between creation and reflection, between artistic practice and collective life. It nourishes the imagination of a cultural project without a single centre, grounded in the conviction that knowledge and creation emerge precisely through encounters, margins and spaces of relation.

MD Accompanies embodies the organisation’s ongoing commitment to singular artistic trajectories. Through this strand, we develop support processes, production and co-production partnerships, residencies, and critical accompaniment that create the conditions for research, experimentation, risk-taking and the dissemination of works in development.
