MD ❦ Institut français

In the autumn of 2026, three professional gatherings will take place as part of a cultural cooperation strategy between France, Spain and Portugal, co-curated by Materiais Diversos and the Institut français du Portugal.

The initiative seeks to strengthen neighbouring artistic ecosystems through the sharing of resources, knowledge and imaginaries, affirming Southern Europe as a fertile territory for imagining new cultural futures.

Program to be announced soon.

  • 17–18 September — Lisbon, co-organised with Culturgest
Conceived as a utopian conference, this first gathering uses art as a critical trigger to reflect on the present and the possible futures of European cultural institutions, fostering strategic imagination and long-term cooperation.
  • 23–25 October — Minde, during our materiais adversos weekend
In its first edition, materiais adversos weekend emerges from the desire to sustain an ongoing artistic presence in the region between editions of the biennial materiais diversos festival. It brings together ten artists based in Portugal for a ten-day research residency culminating in open sharings and encounters with local communities and international professionals. Within this framework, the second gathering proposes a rethinking of models of production and circulation through the principles of mieux produire and mieux diffuser, placing the sustainability of artistic creation at the centre of the discussion through the FUTURΛ seminar. For this occasion, Materiais Diversos is also supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in welcoming international programmers.
  • November — Lisbon, with and during Alkantara Festival
The third gathering, taking place within the framework of Alkantara Festival, focuses on artistic circulation, exploring festivals as strategic infrastructures for visibility, value creation, a fairer distribution of resources, and sustainable international cooperation.

Operation supported by the Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères and the Institut français as part of the strategy to promote the international development of cultural and creative industries through the PICC scheme.
