Workshops
The Workshops developed by Materiais Diversos, in collaboration with the Alcanena School Cluster and, on a regular basis, with Cine-Teatro São Pedro, are spaces for engaging with the contemporary artistic practices we accompany. They approach art as a form of knowledge in dialogue with other disciplines, experiences and ways of understanding the world.
Bringing together dance and other artistic practices with fields such as the sciences, humanities and social sciences, the workshops explore contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, creating connections between different areas of knowledge and between the body and our presence in the world. Through experimentation, artistic practice, debate and critical reflection, they seek to foster artistic literacy, analytical and reflective capacities, and an understanding of the relationships between contemporary artistic creation and other forms of knowledge production.
Held annually throughout the first and second semesters of the school year, the workshops are designed for 5th-grade students and, on an alternating basis, for either 7th-grade students or upper secondary students. They are complemented by sessions for teaching staff, promoting sustained engagement with contemporary artistic creation and its processes.
This programme fosters the development of a shared body of knowledge among artists, children, young people, educators and, at times, other specific audiences. Each initiative forms part of a broader constellation of artistic and pedagogical relationships, extending into the territory the processes, themes and methodologies of the artists we accompany, while contributing to rooting their presence within local communities.
